Taking the new HYPERTURF silhouette — which we saw earlier this month in the inaugural “Almost Yellow” colorway — we find a sneaker with plenty of similarities to the one that came before it. Namely, the upper is as rugged and retro as expected, geared towards the great outdoors with its vintage runner aesthetic. However, adidas Originals now covers the upper in a hard-wearing, heavy-duty CORDURA fabric that should keep the elements outside and protect you from impacts. Of course, speed lacing is worked into the upper alongside webbing fabric detailing for that archetypal tactical look and feel, and branding is fittingly themed.
However, per the “Gaiter” part of its name, the HYPERTURF now grows into a bootie thanks to FIDLOCK equipment. Magnetic snaps on the rear quarter and a speed lace hoop lock on the vamp come together to allow the wearer to place the gaiter sheath on top of the sneaker, keeping debris and the elements away from the wearer even more.
Coupled with the sturdy adiPRENE, adiPRENE+ and FORMOTION-fitted sole unit, and the HYPERTURF Gaiter is a formidable sneaker-cum-bootie fit for all types of conditions. Take a look at the pair in the “Golden Beige / Chalky Brown” and “Shadow Maroon / Ash Pearl” colorways above, and pick them up from adidas’ website on November 21 for $180 USD each.
