The legendary ’90s New York graffiti crew IRAK has a penchant for color, playing with it to create bold prints and garments under its own label. But when it opened its doors to adidas Originals, kicking off in August 2020 with the ZX 8000 collaboration, the world found out about IRAK’s ability to splash hues across almost anything it touched, executed perfectly. Now, following on from its take on the Samba, adidas Originals and IRAK are back together again to rework the footwear giant’s Supernova Cushion 7.
While all the underpinnings and elements of the retro runner remain, IKAK’s color palette of “Core Black/Footwear White/Vivid Green” brings the pair considerably up to date. A white open-pore mesh upper takes center stage before black foam padding is added to the toe bumper, itself tagged up with IRAK’s insignia. Synthetic black and white Three Stripes run down the mid-panel, sectioning the shoe into two and away from the coral-hued sock liner and green heel clip.
Every element of the sneaker is well-thought-out to complement the next, as a gum outsole perfectly contrasts the white, black, and green adiPRENE+ EVA foam sole unit. As for branding, little else apart from adidas logos grace the exterior, while IRAK gets a full footbed moment inside.
IRAK’s adidas Originals Supernova Cushion 7 retails for $140 USD and can be bought from retailers like Sneaker Politics now. Take a closer look above.
In other news, a JJJJound x adidas Originals Samba collaboration is in the works.
