Salehe Bembury and Clarks Originals Officially Reveal Their “Mud Moss” Lugger Collaboration

Salehe Bembury first teased his Lugger collaboration with Clarks Originals back in October, and now the freshly-minted creative partners have revealed official release information for — and new colorways of — their co-created product. An under-the-radar silhouette from the Clarks roster, the Lugger is about to take a major step into the spotlight and Bembury has reimagined it in a trio of new makeups: a bold orange and blue, a vivid green and pink and a cool grey and navy.

Though they may differ in color, all three pairs are identical in construction and embellishment. They feature a forefoot made of ultra-shaggy suede that’s stamped with the abstract “splash” pattern Bembury uses for his Spunge releases, a collar with similar printed details and an asymmetrical lacing system that veers towards the lateral side of the collar. That’s not the only off-center detail that can be seen here, however, as a moccasin-like seam wraps around the lateral forefoot and swoops across the toebox. Rounding off each look is an ultra-thick crepe sole. Exact design inspiration has not been provided, but it’s likely that the Luggers take from Bembury’s fascination with the great outdoors due to their accompanying campaign video and the orange/blue colorway’s palette, which is similar to 2020’s Salehe Bembury x New Balance 2002R “Peace Be the Journey.”

Though we’re not even a full two weeks into 2023, Bembury is clearly gearing up for an impactful year. Besides this Clarks collab, which he’s dubbed “Mud Moss,” he also has a first project with Moncler on the way and will likely be rehashing his popular partnerships with Crocs and New Balance as well. The Salehe Bembury x Clarks Originals “Mud Moss” Luggers will drop via Bembury’s Spunge webstore on Janauary 20 at 9am PST.
